Swan Island Networks’ SWARM® Awarded US Patent 7,337,146

Innovative Alerting/Information Sharing Platform Recognized as Unique and Useful

PORTLAND, Ore., PORTLAND, OR, February 28, 2008—Swan Island Networks, Inc., a recognized leader in the design and deployment of trusted information exchange solutions and services, announces that its flagship SWARM® technology has been awarded United States Patent #7,337,146.

Swan Island Networks’ SWARM technology has been in continual use under a provisional patent since 2003, when it was deployed to launch Connect & Protect™, an award-winning information sharing program which links hundreds of public and private security stakeholders.

In 2004, Swan Island Networks was invited to test its SWARM technology in the international Joint Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (JWID), the largest event of its kind, designed to allow U.S. Combatant Commands and the international community to investigate new and emerging technologies. (JWID has become CWID—Coaltion Warrior Interoperability Demonstration.) Military representatives known as “warfighters” subjected SWARM to rigorous testing, with these results:

“…Warfighters …commented that SWARM…provided [information sharing] capabilities that were a tremendous improvement over the current capabilities and methods….Warfighters unanimously agreed that SWARM is needed within the HLS/HLD community and its current capabilities would greatly benefit those in the field. Warfighters felt that SWARM…provided a solution to facilitate tightly controlled information sharing across multiple information domains…SWARM was a complete success in JWID 2004.” (Excerpt, Joint Warrior Interoperability Demonstration 2004 Final Report.)

The same technology is now being used as the technology platform of Swan Island Networks’ TIES information service. TIES provides security alerting, information sharing and other services for federal, state and local government agencies and commercial enterprises.

“The SWARM patent provides Swan Island with a strong intellectual property foundation for our innovative security and emergency response services,” said Charles Jennings, CEO of Swan Island Networks. “We are especially pleased about the mobile alerting portions of the patent.”
